Disability Communities Defending Democracy (DCDD) is a nonprofit. We advocate for inclusive democracy. And we help disability communities fight anti-democracy groups and movements.
Disability organizers founded DCDD in 2025. We are starting out in the Pacific Northwest. This is because the Pacific Northwest has a big problem with anti-democracy groups. DCDD can help anyone in the U.S..
What is inclusive democracy?
Inclusion means all of us. An inclusive democracy means everyone
- Is free to be who they are
- Gets a say in their government
- Gets a say in what happens in their community
- Gets to live in and enjoy their community
Who Are Anti-Democracy Groups?
Some people want to get rid of democracy. They think only some people should be free to be who they are, get a say in the government, and live in their communities.
People who want to get rid of inclusive democracy have a lot of power. Many of them have a lot of money. Many of them are leaders in government. Many of them belong to groups that want to get rid of inclusive democracy. Those groups are anti-democracy groups.
Those people and those groups want more power. They want to take away rights from people who they think should not have power.
Anti-democracy groups want to take away rights from many kinds of people. Anti-democracy groups in our country often go after people like these:
- People with disabilities
- Women
- People who are not white, such as Black and Indigenous people
- People who moved to our country (immigrants)
- Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) people
- People who are not Christian, such as Muslims, Jews, and Sikhs
- People who do not speak English
Some anti-democracy groups use violence to try to get rid of democracy. Some anti-democracy groups use other ways to try to get rid of democracy. All anti-democracy groups are dangerous.
How does DCDD defend inclusive democracy?
DCDD informs our community about inclusive democracy. We want to create resources that everyone can understand. We also explain current events and how they connect to our values.
We also support people and communities who are targeted by anti-democracy activism. We can provide advice and resources. If you are targeted and need help, contact us.
We also provide trainings to advocates, communities, and organizations on effectively resisting anti-democracy efforts.
