DCDD Paid Listening Group on Antisemitism

DCDD is making a resource on antisemitism. We want to create a resource that explains antisemitism and how we can stop it. We want to make a resource that is accessible to people with disabilities. DCDD wants to hear from people about what they know about antisemitism. We also want to know what people think about antisemitism. This is a paid listening session. We will give people who come to our event $300 dollars. This page is in plain language. Plain language is an easier way of writing. It is more accessible for many kinds of people.

Read below to learn more.

What is antisemitism?

Antisemitism is:

  • Hatred of Jewish people
  • Blaming Jewish people for things that are not their fault. Jewish people are often scapegoats. A scapegoat is someone or a group of people that gets blamed for bad things happening.
  • Discrimination against Jewish people. Discrimination is treating someone unfairly based on who they are.
  • Violence against Jewish people

Why are we making this resource?

There is a lot of antisemitism in the United States right now.

Our resource will be in Easy Read and Plain Language formats. Easy Read and Plain Language is writing designed to be easy to read. It was designed to help self-advocates but it benefits many different people. There aren’t accessible resources on antisemitism. We think it’s important that everyone can learn about antisemitism. We think it is important that everyone learns how they can stop antisemitism.

Antisemitism is a threat to the self advocacy movement. Antisemitism is a threat to all civil rights movements. Antisemitism has not always existed. In the past, people with power created antisemitism. People with power did this to protect their own power.

People with power wanted non-Jews to blame Jewish people for their problems. They didn’t want non-Jews to blame the people who are actually causing their problems, like kings and lords.

Today, people in power still want non-Jews to blame Jewish people for their problems. They don’t want non-Jews to blame the people who are actually causing their problems. They want to keep all of us divided and stop us from working together to make an inclusive society.

Why are we holding a focus group?

DCDD is holding a focus group to learn more about what people know about antisemitism. This will help us write our resource.

We want to learn:

  • What people know about antisemitism
  • What do people think about antisemitism
  • What questions do people have about antisemitism
  • How lies about antisemitism are used to hurt other movements. For example, Project Esther.

We also will talk about antisemitism. We will explain what antisemitism is and where it comes from. We want to see if people have questions about our explanation. We want to know how we can explain better.

This focus group will help us make our resource better. It will help us make our resource more accessible to people with disabilities.

We will also hold another group when the resource is finished. We will go over our resource and ask people for their thoughts and questions. This is to make sure the resource is accessible.

Who do we want to join our focus group?

We want to hear from people with a variety of experiences. We want to hear from both Jewish and non-Jewish people. You don’t have to be an expert on Jewish culture and religion.

We want to hear from self advocates, especially people with intellectual disabilities and people who need Easy Read and Plain Language resources.

We want people who advocate for causes they care about to participate. This can include:

  • Disability advocacy
  • Racial justice
  • Fighting antisemitism
  • Advocating for Palestine
  • LGBTQ rights
  • Housing
  • And many more
